The gluten-free diet is also currently enjoying considerable popularity among patients with IBS. Several clinical trials demonstrated the effect of gluten on IBS symptoms. In a clinical trial gluten was shown to induce the IBS symptoms in some patients with IBS (Vazquez–Roque et al. 2013). A study showed that a gluten-free diet produces a slight but significant improvement in all symptoms of a subset of patients (Rodrigo et al. 2014). The benefits of the diet for IBS patients were confirmed in other trials (Aziz et al. 2016).
